Search engine optimisation is a combination of several processes that are performed to reach only one goal and that is to increase traffic going to the website by increasing the search engine results page ranking of the website on the different or on all of the different search engines. One such process in SEO is the method known as link building. Link building just like SEO is a series of different processes that would have an ultimate goal of increasing traffic and conversion rates going to the target website. This process focuses on building links that goes towards the target websites’ different web pages emanating from other websites. For example site A which is an external website will be creating a link to site B which is your website. This process is being utilised merely because of the fact that every link going to your website from another website especially such with a high page ranking would mean a vote to your website coming from a highly trusted source. Linking however, is not that easy, there are also rules that have to be followed in order to make all links count as a vote to your website.
First thing that you have to consider is the relevance of the link. You have to make sure that your website is being linked to by another website which has the same or similar content-theme. This means that a site linking to your website must also pertain and engaged to the type of online business you are in, otherwise the links going to your website would just be useless.
Second is to make appropriate link proportions, there are two ways a link is being built with the aide of other websites, one is a single link and the other a reciprocal link. A single link is a link that only goes to your website, where for example site A is linking to site B without the latter linking back. Reciprocal link on the other hand requires the target website to link back to the site that has linked to it. Where for example site A links to site B and vice versa. There is no actual measure on the proportionality of the links rather what is being favored in SEO or by SEO companies and SEO consultants is the adage the more single links the better.
