Whilst managing one of the client Google Adwords account’s I have just noticed new tab called “Auto Targets”. It seems that Google added this account to the circle of Beta testers. “Auto Targets” is funcionality which will show product ads in Google Search Network.

You can target products in different ways:

1. Target all products from the shopping feed;

2. Target group of products using Google Shopping feed attributes: “product_type”, “brand”, “adwords_grouping”, “condition”, “adwords_labels”

Also you can create mulptiple product targets per one ad group.

Previously, users of Google Merchant Centre were issuing problems with sharing their Google Merchant accounts with other users. This issue was continuing for years, by creating a lot of confusion in different situations. Lets say the primary shopping feed was uploaded in the merchant centre account, which was created using private google account, then user decides to share his access with his co-worker and then there is a problem, that it is not possible to share the access. The only way to transfer access to another Google Merchant user was to delete URL address from settings. New user had to verify new account and upload shopping feed into the merchant centre.

But Google resolved this problem by allowing share the account with other google account users.

Google Merchant User Access

To share your account, you have to select “Settings” – > “Users” and then simply just add google account user name you want to share the account data with.

It is very important to keep update with the Google Shopping feed. Google has recently announced that they have updated the required fields of the shopping feed for all the countries including UK. All the merchants have to update their Google Shopping feeds until 22nd of September 2011. Merchants which won’t comply with the new requirements will be suspended and their Shopping feeds won’t show up in Google product listings, unless they will fix their issues immediately.

Requirement changes for the UK merchants will be:

  • Availability. Every advertise should include the status of the stock. Available values: “‘in stock”, “available for order”, “out of stock”, “preorder”;
  • Google_Product_category. Applies only to ‘Apparel and Accessories’, ‘Media’, ‘Software’ categories. Must use standard Google Shopping taxanomy.
  • Additional_Image_link. Use only if the product got more than one product image.

Full Google Shopping specification can be found here

There is very simple way how to show products from Google Shopping listings in Google Adwords Ads.

  • First of all you have to login to your existing Google Merchant Account, that you want to link with Google Adwords.

Under the “Settings” plus box there is a link to “Adwords“. And then simply add your Adwords Customer ID.

  • After everything is configured in Google Merchant Center you should configure your Google Adwords. Select the campaign you want to extend with Product Extensions. Select Ad Extensions and choose Product Extensions

From the drop down menu select your Google Merchant Account and Click Save.

Wait couple of hours and you will see product extensions on your Google Adwords Ads. There is an example below how the text ad with Product Extension will look like.

One of the best solution for eCommerce website to get more exposure on Google is to get listed on Google Product listings.

There are  5 simple steps how to get products listed on Google Products:

1.  Get Google Merchant Account. Sign in to Google Merchant using with your Google Account.

2.  Get your Website Verified. Go to “Settings” page. Fill all the data that is required and get you website verified.

3.  Create a Data Feed. When the website is verified, you have to create data feeds.  Google Merchant Center currently support data feeds in the following formats: Text (Spreadsheet) or Tab Delimited or XML file. More Information  on Supported File Format can be found here. You have to follow and use feed specification which is provided by Google, the latest feed Specification version is here .

4. Upload your data feed. After the Data Feed is created all you have to do is upload your Data. There are two different ways how to upload your feed:

a. Manual upload (manually upload file to the server)

b. Scheduled upload (upload data feed to the google ftp server or your own server )

Tip: Keep the Data Feed fresh and choose scheduled upload option.

5. Wait couple of hours while Google will index all the products you uploaded

Check Google Merchant Center help center for the latest information.

There are more issues with data feed formatting, which will be discussed and explained on my posts.
