In recent months Facebook has been said to be defeating the search engine giant Google in terms of it relevance to internet users. Relevance may be taken as what the internet users are using in order to locate data via the internet, further making the website or the social media network to be the widely used website by internet users. Google previously holds the title of the most used website in the internet a title that was taken over by Facebook once the social media company began to gather half a billion members. SEO companies know that social media has proven to be one of the internet’s widely used application or website that an average person using the internet would spend majority of their time online using social media networks for purposes of connecting with friends and even do business.

In order to be not left out Google is currently working on their own version of social media network that was developed in order to battle Facebook. Dubbed as the Google +, the search engine giant on its initial tests have “learned from the mistakes of Facebook” by removing or giving solution to the different privacy issues of Facebook. For Google + for example they have incorporated more than thirteen privacy settings and in order to make such setting to be best understood by the users a one to two sentence explanation is incorporated.

Unlike Facebook, Google+ does not require members to use their own personal name in order to join the social network. This is to further allow users to protect their privacy. In addition Google has by default set the different features to inactive so that the users can just choose which feature they would like to be activated. Finally, Google has incorporated the “circle” feature wherein you can include your circle of friends which makes it easier to share your status or anything that you want to be shared with your friends up to the third degree.

In the world of search engines the biggest names have constantly battling each other in order to gain the top spot in terms of the number of users of such search engine. This is because the more people that uses their search engine the higher their return of investments, so far Google has been in the forefront of this race to getting search engine users. Google’s battle with the other search engines such as Yahoo and Bing became obvious to SEO companies when Microsoft’s Bing has undergone several changes and agreements with other companies which includes the social media giant Facebook and Bing’s second rival Yahoo. The merger of Yahoo with Bing made SEO consultants believe that Google the sole target in this continuing battle.

However in a very rare moment the big three of search engines have set aside, in the meantime, their differences in order to  develop what is dubbed as schema.org. The schema.org initiative from Yahoo, Bing and Google aims to standardise or develop a common set of data which will serve as a universal and common language which will be utilised by all search engines.

The markup data collection will serve as a list of different markups that will be utilised or that can be utilised by SEO specialists in their website in order to organise such website properly and have it displayed on the search engine results page of a search engine. With thousands of markups and snippets of code cropping up every week especially with the development of HTML5 the SEO agencies will be having a difficult time in determining which tags or attributes should be used in order to organise their site data for the efficient crawling and ranking in the search engine results page.

Schema.org therefore can be considered by SEO experts are a collection of SEO friendly attributes and elements which they can utilise in their SEO Campaign.

After its launch in March of 2011, Google has announced that they will already start rolling out the Google social button dubbed as +1 which is pronounced as “plus one”. The plus one button is Google’s counter for the ever famous Facebook “like” button wherein such buttons will be clicked by users who “likes” the site, web page or content.

Recently Microsoft’s Bing has announced that their search engine algorithm particularly in the ranking of the website will be influenced by the number of “likes” that a website has gotten from his or her users or visitors. For Google this may also follow such pattern of making the plus one button as an explicit ranking factor for their algorithm although as of now this is still to be clarified by Google.

One major question with regards to plus one is that how the “tally” is going to be displayed to the users since Google does not have a social media platform. Unlike for Facebook on the other hand where the likes for the website will be shown via the facebook account of the user and will also be displayed to the users’ friends. Such “Like” feature has made this to be a popular button being added by webmasters as well as SEO companies in their websites as it gives you the ability to promote further the website via the social media platform of Facebook.

In order to match the “Like” button feature of Facebook, Google has to roll out their own social media platform or find a way on how to integrate the social button plus one with the other services that Google is offering.

Surely the Google feature +1 will be something for SEO consultants should observe especially on the point on whether or not such will be influencing the search engine results page rankings of the different websites.

SEO companies know that one of the most tedious as well as valuable task next to content development is link building. Link building is an equal ranking factor with that of content development which every SEO consultant should perform or conduct properly in order to achieve the ranking that they so desire. There are several ways on building links like submission to article directories, directory sites, commenting and plainly gaining a link through social media and recommendations from other websites.

However, building links does not mean that you blindly add your site URL via these methods this is because some links may prove to be valueless and may help in increasing your rankings rather it might even contribute to the decline in your ranking. This is why before you are to start with your link building process it is advisable that you are to first know how your links are valued.

1. Site Authority –when you try to gain a link from another website it would be best that you gain such link from authority sites, although there are no direct indications which sites are authoritative the Google page rank may be a good implied indication of a sites authority thus the higher the Google page rank the more authority such web page has.

2. Trust Rank – when building your links it is also imperative that you determine the trust rank of the website you want to link from. Determining the trust rank basically involves the determination on who or which sites are linking to the website that you are going to link from. This process according to SEO experts is likened to determining the link neighbourhood of a specific website.

3. Relevance – according to the research conducted by SEO firms, links coming from websites that are related to your target websites would be given more weight or value by the search engine rather than those links that comes from unrelated source. Thus it would be better for an SEO Company or SEO consultant to research on the list of websites or directories that are related to his or her website and build links from that rather than wasting your time building links on unrelated websites.

Choosing the domain name for your website may prove to be very easy. Of course that is if you would just want your domain name as something that would be describing your website and not actually your entire business. Should you want your website to become an income generating website then optimising it for SEO purposes would be the best way to go. This means therefore that aside from optimising the different parts of your website from content to the link that is pointing to your website, one of the best SEO strategy is also by optimising your websites’ domain name.

Although not a popular aspect in search engine optimisation many SEO companies should be able to incorporate the optimisation of the target websites’ domain name in order to increase their chances of being ranked better in the different search engines than their competitor.

Having established the importance of optimising the domain name of a website, the following are the different tips on how one can optimise the domain name.

1. Pick a domain name that is unique – the reason for this is that you would want to build your brand around that domain name that you have chosen and that if you would utilise a domain name that resembles that of another website then such would create confusion which will redound to the benefit of the domain name that came ahead of you.

2. When choosing the domain name, make it to a point that the domain name is going to be easy to type or encode. This is because of the fact that lengthy domain names with confusing structure would give room to typographical errors and where such errors committed by the user might be beneficial to another website.

3. If your website’s purpose is for commercial purposes then it would be better to choose a domain name that has a dot com (.com) domain extension. Many SEO consultants have observed that using a dot com has given users the impression that the website is a lot more reliable and trustworthy.
