The field of Search engine optimisation rapidly becoming a multi-million business and it is because of this that there are many so-called SEO consultants that are sprouting overnight. Many SEO companies pose to be experts in the field of search engine optimisation that many online companies are usually being duped into acquiring their services only to find out later on that their services would do more harm than good to their websites’ search engine and online presence, this could be attested by those who lost rankings when Google rolled out its Panda algorithm.

Clients who would find the need for an SEO service should know that there are two methods in SEO that an SEO firm may utilise. One is called the white hat technique and the other the black hat technique. Black Hat Technique is considered by many search engines to be the negative or to simply put it bad way of conducting your search engine optimisation campaign.

This is because of the fact that this utilises strategies and techniques that are designed to “fool” search engines and in effect would ultimately manipulate the search engine results, however this type of strategy or method does not last long because of the fact that search engines continuously try to detect the presence of black hat techniques in order to make their search engine results to be a lot more accurate. If an SEO expert’s black hat method is detected in a website it could cause the website to be penalised and may be banned from the search engine results page.

White hat technique on the other hand is the best way to conduct your SEO campaign. This is because of the fact that strategies involved in white hat SEO method incorporates only search engine-friendly strategies. Specific white hat strategies involve extensive keyword research, constructing a sound site structure and internal linking, creating high quality content and building relevant links.

No this type of breadcrumb does not come from your local bakery, breadcrumbs in website development and search engine optimisation are links that are segmented found in search results. Basically a breadcrumbs’ function is to help users trace the pages that they have passed through in order to reach the current page where they are now.

Since breadcrumbs are links this would allow users to easily navigate through such pages easily. The idea of breadcrumbs in a website emanated with the need to provide users guides in navigating the website with ease thus increasing the usability of such website.

However, many SEO companies take for granted basic guidelines in terms of developing breadcrumbs and most of the time their developed breadcrumb became a lot more confusing which would of course decrease the usability of the website. In order to prevent this, the following suggestions can be followed in developing breadcrumbs:

1. For the breadcrumb link name it would be better if one remains to be concise and not keyword-centric. It must rather be descriptive of the content of the page it is linking to.

2. Follow a logical linking system for breadcrumb links, you should not link the breadcrumb onto its own page, when you are on a specific page the link that pertains to such page should not be linked but rather be turned to only a text.

3. When writing your link name for the breadcrumb consistency is important, this means that all throughout the site the link name should be the same for a specific page do not change the link name that will pertain to the same page.

4. Always remember the main purpose of the breadcrumbs and this is to help the users or visitors to easily navigate your website, breadcrumbs are not primarily developed for SEO purposes therefore when developing your breadcrumbs always put the convenience of the user as your main consideration.

Microsoft has recently unveiled its Bing Business Portal a new service feature that is designed to replace the Bing Local Listing Center. As the new name would imply this service would pertain to allowing business owners or its duly assigned representative to create local business listings and incorporate contents that would be relevant to such business. This feature is said to be like that of Google’s Places.

This business directory listing that was reintroduced by Bing by replacing its previous local listing feature the Bing Local Listing Center, also introduced several new features. One feature that you can do with the Bing Business Portal is to create, claim, manage and verify your own local business listing which is of course a feature that is also done using Google places, nevertheless a feature that is said to be sought after by several SEO companies.

For search engine optimisation purposes the Bing Business Portal also allows users to manipulate or manage the search category where your business or your listing is going to appear. This means that you can identify the category where such listing will be classified under therefore making your link from the Bing Business Portal to be a lot more relevant.

In addition, the Bing Business Portal also allows users to fully customise their listing by way of incorporating graphics, photographs and or logos. Bing also added a mobile feature where users are given the avenue to create a simple mobile website for customers to be able to view business listing using their smartphones.

In using Bing Business Portal users will also get the chance to create a customised menu which can be included in the mobile menu such feature is a lot applicable to restaurant and bar owners. For promotional purposes Bing Business Portal has also allowed users to be able to create “deals” or coupons and can be promoted on Bing for free.

The battle to supremacy in the realm of search still rages on and for the challengers to the throne of the search engine giant, Google there are some good news. It has been known that Google has been dominating the world of search more than sixty percent share in terms of internet users. For several years Google has dominated the search market and has only given a little percentage for other companies to divide among themselves.

In this division Yahoo constantly gets second place and Microsoft third. However with the merger of Yahoo and Microsoft and the renovation of the latter’s search engine, it was believed to help increase the internet users share of the Microsoft as a whole. In the 2010 agreement between Yahoo and Microsoft, Yahoo will already be using Bing’s search algorithm or search capability.

This months and months of work is seen to be paying off after several frustrations in terms of the internet users shares right after the merger.

According to Experian Hitwise, an online survey company, Microsoft’s Bing was able to garner thirty percent of the entire volume of searches during the month of March. This volume of search came from Bing and from its Bing powered search engines which of course would already include websites that belong to Yahoo utilising the Bing search algorithm. As for Yahoo, independently, it’s statistic rose to 15.69 percent which is a slight increase from its previous performance of 14.99 percent.

What about the search engine giant, Google? Well, it’s still remained on top with a 64.42 percent internet users share. However, this was a slight decline from its February performance of 66.69 percent. It would seem therefore that the increase of Microsoft’s internet users’ share came at the expense of Google. As part of it’s effort to battle Google for supremacy Microsoft also have announced that they will be rolling out an instant search result as well as an HTML5 makeover, features which Google already have incorporated in their search capabilities. It will be interesting to follow how SEO companies adapt to these changing statistics.

The introduction of several popular social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter has given rise to a new field of online marketing strategy known as SMM or Social Media Marketing. Many SEO companies have begun to develop strategies in order to integrate search engine optimisation with the power of social media.

These efforts have obviously paid-off for many SEO consultants however despite of the successes in this field many SEO firms are still not maximising the power of social media and that the only thing they know when social media is being brought up is Facebook and Twitter.

The term social media is a very broad term which can be broken down to its four major cornerstones; the Blog, the Social Bookmarking Site, Forums and Social Networking Sites. These four cornerstones when correctly utilised and integrated into the search engine optimisation campaign of an SEO expert will surely generate a lot more backlinks and traffic. Lets take a closer look at these cornerstones for Social Media:

1. Social Networking Sites – these are sites that commonly and closely associated with social media, examples of these sites are the popular Facebook and Twitter. In terms of Search engine optimisation or in terms of Internet Marketing and advertising the use of these social networking sites will allow users to gain or build a community of followers and or a reader-base to which the site owner can interact with and promote his or her product or services.

2. Social Bookmarking Site – this is considered to be the odd-man of the social media cornerstones because of the fact that it’s function is mainly to expose blog posts or site contents as well as contents that were incorporated with the social networking sites. Popular Social bookmarking sites include, Digg, Reddit and StumbleUpon.

3. Forums – are of course one of the web’s oldest means of social media because of the fact that it was started way before the other forms of social media even came to existence. Forums allows you to open threads and discuss relevant topics. In order to gain significant SEO advantage with forums it is imperative that you create, join and discuss relevant topics to the most popular forums. This will also be a good avenue for you to talk about your Business, product or services.

4. Blogs – blogs nowadays are not only viewed as a personal online journal it also became a means for increasing efficiency of SEO campaigns. This is why SEO companies are now integrating blogs to their websites in order to give the site means to having an avenue to incorporate daily fresh contents and to give the site the opportunity or capability to generate exposure through sites like Technorati.

Indeed, maximising the potential of these four cornerstone of social media will help increase traffic generation and even backlinks.

Many SEO companies know that every SEO campaign involves a lot of processes and sometimes it would not immediately yield the desired result. Sometimes there is a need to “blindly” combine the different SEO strategies in order to arrive at the desired result.

There is no solution to the problem of a “trial and error” approach in search engine optimisation, this is because of the fact that every website has its own unique construction and not to mention the difference in the target audience makes every SEO campaign unique. Of course SEO campaigns are not entirely composed of original strategies instead it is a combination of pre-existing strategies. Utilising the strategies properly or starting with the incorporation of the strategies properly with the SEO campaign can greatly contribute to the success of the SEO campaign. The following are some of the strategies that when properly executed may result to the increase of traffic or page ranking.

The first strategy was greatly used during the early days of Search engine optimisation, and this is the utilisation of the meta element in the head element of the web page. This strategy was abused by many SEO consultants during its advent which later on became a strategy that is less important in influencing the SERP of a website. However, SEO firms at present still consider the use of the meta keywords and meta description elements and attributes to be an essential part of a webpage because it gives users and spiders most especially information about the website.

Second strategy that would help the increase of traffic in your target website is the use of the “alt” attribute for every image element used in your website. The image element has the alternative or “alt” attribute where SEO experts can use to include a description of the image which of course is a chance to incorporate the keywords.

Third tip is to make your site easy to navigate especially for the search engine crawlers and in order to do this SEO companies are constructing an XML sitemap for their website, which are of course submitted to the search engines.

For SEO companies, it was not too long ago when Google introduced and included in their search engine algorithm page loading speed as a ranking factor. According to Google the faster the website loads the better meaning a fast loading time will increase the chances for your website to be easily indexed and ranked by Google. This is of course in line with the fact that Google also has incorporated with their search engine page the Google instant feature as well as the Google preview feature for the said search engine.

Many SEO consultants were taken aback by the incorporation of the page loading speed as a ranking factor this is because of the fact that there are some “mysteries” on how to increase the loading speed of the website, not to mention the fact that there is no clear cut rule on how the loading speed is measured.

In order to help solve such problem in terms of lack of information on how page speed is taken into consideration as a ranking factor, Google has introduced the Page Speed Analyser which is still in the Google Labs stage or in Google language it is still in its evaluation stage.

The Google Page analyser tool will ask the users to enter the URL of the site that is going to be analysed. After clicking the analyse button the page speed analyser tool will start analysing the URL and then returns a rating which is scaled from zero to one hundred (0-100). After which the Google page speed analyser will then give the user a long list of suggestions in order to speed up your websites’ page loading speed which are categorised according to Low , Medium and High priority.

For SEO experts who would like to integrate this tool with their Firefox or Chrome browsers are provided with the Page Speed Extensions. Since the Page Speed Analyser is still in its development stage users will be assured of better service as well as accurate return of results.

It is no secret that the impact of Social Media is so great that many SEO companies are not only purely sticking to search engine optimisation but they are also utilising strategies in social media optimisation. This is because of the fact that social media networks have gained popularity over the years. Not to mention the fact that a Social Media network named Facebook has gained popularity and members exponentially, which can be viewed as a source of traffic to your website.

Another social media network that made “waves” in terms of traffic and in terms of search engine optimisation is Twitter, Twitter is considered as a microblog which delivers real-time short messages that would come from the users and publish or send it to their network of followers.

Many SEO consultants have again seen Twitter as a potential traffic source and have started to develop several strategies in order to harness this potential and make it work according to their search engine optimisation campaign.

For twitter users and SEO firms, it is common knowledge that using twitter you can publish a short message to your twitter followers, therefore getting your message across to a network of followers. In order to include or increase your total number of visitors and from there you can make or start with providing us with all that we need, in order to do this travellers may follow several steps.

First, in order to make visitors become followers in Twitter, users may include a call to action message which would compel writers to create a Twitter account and have it serve as a basis for making a Twitter pages. Proper positioning of the different text from the tweet button may also be used as a consideration when trying to post a message that will help convert users or website visitors into Twitter followers.

Finally, another factor to consider when using Twitter with the goal of gaining followers for your Twitter account is via the use of relevant content that could be shared and Tweeted about by the different visitors of your website, creating a content worth of a discussion will engage your visitors to be your Twitter followers also.

Google has announced the launching of a crowdsource button for the search engine giant’s websites and ads. Dubbed as the +1 this button is initially described as something similar to that of Facebook’s like button. The purpose of the +1 button according to Google is that it will be for people to express their appreciation for specific contents over the web. In terms of an interpretation from SEO companies the purpose of +1 is to gather social graph data which will determine or give an idea for the search engine company about what topic, content or website is currently “hot”.

This method or need to gather social graph data is needed as this is something that Google lacks as compared with Facebook. Many SEO consultants believe that the data gathered from the +1 button will give Google an idea on how social media works a very important knowledge especially after their blunders with their so-called Twitter-like social media platform dubbed as the Google Buzz.

According to Google on the other hand, +1 was developed to augment their search engine in determining which contents or websites are valuable or are currently relevant. It was announced that the different +1 buttons will be appearing in websites or web pages along with the different search results.

The +1 button according to Google will enable users or visitors to express their appreciation to the site , product or content which could have an effect to the search engine results page ranking of a website as many SEO firms and SEO specialists know that one main criterion for a website is relevance and thus many SEO experts believe that +1 will start to become a SERP determining factor.

As a safety precaution, Google announced that they will be tracking the clicks of the button to avoid any misuse of the button to manipulate any relevance ranking. Google also announced that they will slowly roll out +1 starting with or the search engine’s English version.
