Microsoft is known to be an operating system giant and recently it has been known as Google’s competitor not only in the field of search engine but also in operating systems as well. With Microsoft’s merger with Google’s longtime adversary, Yahoo, Microsoft’s intentions were clear and that is to topple down Google on its supremacy over search users share. Facebook on the other hand is different from the two search engine companies because of the fact that Facebook is a social media network and it initially started as a website that connects people, friends and families. However, because of the popularity of Facebook, the social network giant is starting to compete with Google in terms of online advertising. It has also integrated several other features like games and customisation properties in order to increase and maintain the interests of their users. It is because of these that Facebook was able to surpass Google in terms of users share which thus makes Facebook a viable opponent for Google.

In a recent keynote speech by Microsoft CEO Mark Zuckerberg he gave the announcement that they are launching their online version of its office suite dubbed as Docs. Docs maybe similar to that of Google’s Docs but there is one thing that Microsoft integrated in their Docs version and that is it allows users to create and share Microsoft Office documents on Facebook. Thus it is clear that the operating system giant and social network giant have come into collaboration. However, they have clarified that their purpose for such collaboration is about social productivity experience and it does not conflict with the aims of Google which is geared towards targeting the corporate sector.

Using Docs from Microsoft is however not that easy because of the fact that you still have to wait in-line, in a virtual line of course, for your account to be activated before you can use it.

The Online video website, YouTube, a branch of the search engine giant Google, have recently released information that they have noted an increased in user data request. YouTube is a free online video website that allows users to view or upload videos over the internet. Since its acquisition by Google, YouTube have been considered as a non-income generating site, until lately when the search engine giant started to place advertisements on the videos. YouTube videos easily deliver a viral effect among its users and every video can be shared through other websites. It is because of its characteristics of being easily uploaded, viewed and shared that most of time other people will upload videos regarding another person without his or her prior consent. If such was discovered by the aggrieved party then this is where user data requests would emanate, people trying to find out the origin of the upload and hopefully find out who uploaded the video.

It is because of those characteristics of this online video website that there is an increase in the user data requests. Starting from the second half of the year 2009 up to December 31, 2009 YouTube has received more than ten thousand requests for user data. Among those requests to remove content in YouTube are those videos that advocate child pornography. These legitimate requests are immediately being acted upon by YouTube’s technical and legal team.

Several U.S. government agencies have made around three thousand five hundred eighty requests for user data since July 1, 2009 up to December 31, 2009, most of them are requests to remove content and to release user data for criminal investigations. Brazil however has the most requests with three thousand six hundred sixty three, on this number two hundred ninety-one were requests to remove contents and the rest are requests to release user data. The United Kingdom and India on the other hand has one thousand combined requests.

Google said that they have partially complied with such request, acting upon eighty percent of such requests.

Google have been in constant battle with legal issues, and even with their relationship with foreign governments. During the past months Google have been in and out of the court room due to the legal issue surrounding their new feature product the Google Books, although several authors and publishers have already agreed with Google there are still some authors and entities that have continued on their anti-trust case against Google. Another challenge that plagued Google is keeping their business relations with one of their biggest client base where they are getting a lot of their foreign internet users’ shares, this Google’s tussle with China. Google have been battling the government of China on issues regarding the censorship of the search engines’ search result. This event forced Google to abandon China as their business center in Asia and transfer their business interest to Google Hongkong. Recent events also have given the search engine giant another problem that is the increase of users’ share on social media network particularly that of Facebook.

With these problems Google investors have been rethinking their investments with the search engine giant. Among the investments that Google may lose is their advertising customers since the announcement of Facebook that they will be fully implementing their advertising services. Aside from that Twitter the microblogging company also has announced that they will be starting their advertising services, thus these moves being done by the social networking sites are threatening to snatch Google’s advertisers.

Another future problem that Google may face is the fact that Apple have already entered the mobile advertising services, thus Google will not enter the mobile advertising service uncontested and thus will not give them the leverage of being the first to launch a mobile advertising service. The problems that are plaguing Google are thus making their investors rethink their investments and the main question remains what will the search engine giant pull out of its hat to overcome these problems and regain the

Recently reports have stated that Google’s application that was taken from its Iphone version does not conform to the video resolution of the slate tablet PC the Ipad. This was noticed by those who first bought and used the Ipad sparking suspicions that Apple is slowly easing out Google in their products. Suspicions were increased when users have also noticed that Google is not the default search engine for their Ipad web browser, Apple’s Safari.

Recently however, Google have announced that they have already tweaked their Google mobile application for the Ipad and the optimisation resulted to the Google icons and interfaces to be compatible with the Ipad’s large screen. The restructured or redesigned application was taken from the existing application from Google’s Iphone mobile applications which includes services such as search tools like search by MyLocation and Search by Voice. Additional web applications that were optimised by Google for the Ipad includes Web applications such as Google Reader, Maps, Google Buzz and Gmail.

With the restructuring of the web-based applications Google expects that Ipad users will have an easier time in navigating such features. Google also announced that they are trying to optimise their application in order to exploit an Ipad-specific tool or feature, which would thus make such feature of Google to be unique only to the Ipad. Analysts have observed that Google is focusing more on tweaking web based applications to the Ipad which thus exhibited with the new HTML 5 Ipad-optimised Gmail web application, further analysis would reveal that Google is really pushing for their cloud-based services and Ipad users can expect more tweaks from the search engine giant.

As of the moment Google is the only company that has released their Ipad-optimised search applications through the Itunes store but it would not be long before companies like Microsoft, Google’s competitor, would release their own Ipad-features.

The Search engine giant, Google, have been bombarded with challenges during the end of the previous year which continued on to the first quarter of the next year. Google have faced the challenges posed by the different publishers and authors about Google’s new product the Google books citing anti-trust law violations as well as plagiarism. Then Google had to battle the Chinese government in Google’s bid to reduce or eliminate censorship in its Google China search engine results. Apart from these problems Google has to tackle the recent increase in the number of users, even surpassing that of Google’s, of social media network sites, particularly Facebook.

According to analysts the search engine giants’ sales grew to twenty three percent compared from the same period of the previous year. In addition the net income of the search engine giant increased to more than thirty seven percent. However, analysts were not impressed by the performance of Google due to the fact that being a highly regarded search engine company Google is expected to do more.

According to Google, one factor that may have hampered their further increase in revenue is the fact that they have spent so much on maintaining their operations and that they have, during the first quarter, hired around eight hundred employees. Despite of this Google’s chief financial officer is very optimistic that Google has performed very well during the first quarter. The field of search engine optimisation is said to be one of the fastest rising online industry as of the moment. This is because search engine optimisation gives a huge benefit to the different online businesses that are being developed everyday. The number of e-commerce sites and even simple websites are increasing at an exponential rate and thus having your website seen by the public can be next to impossible. This is where search engine optimisation comes in, the process optimises the different components of your websites in order to be indexed by search engines and further to give it a higher ranking in the search engines’ results page.

However, the process of Search engine optimisation is very tedious and most of the time relies on a trial and error approach. This type of approach could prove to be detrimental to your websites’ ranking thus it is advisable to hire the services of those who pioneered in the field of SEO, the SEO companies and SEO consultants. Hiring an SEO company or an SEO consultant however requires a checking of your own because some unscrupulous people are disguising themselves as an SEO company or an SEO Consultant but they do not really have the right skills and experience to get the job done. This is the reason why you have to check whether or not the SEO consultant has undergone training or if the SEO company provides constant training to their SEO agents.

Four months after Google has announced their personalised search option which was believed to completely change the process of Search engine optimisation, it has been observe that SEO is still the major factor in making a website visible through the search engines. Google’s personalised search centers on the principle of behavioral targeting thus, the search results that will be returned to the user is going to be based on the so-called “behavior” of the user when using the internet. However, the personalised search’s goals are not being fully realised as the use of search engine optimisation strategies still plays a big part in determining whether a website is going to be indexed or not or whether a website is going to be ranked higher in the search engine results page or  not.

Despite of this SEO companies and SEO consultants should not ignore Google’s announcement about the personalised search as this would turn out to someday become a huge part in the search engine’s algorithms. Thus, it would be better if SEO companies and SEO consultants would prepare themselves in getting ready for such situation of change in SEO algorithm.

In optimising personalised search by Google the same processes will apply such as developing relevant contents and relevant keywords. The rule of SEO is that the website’s contents and keywords should be relevant to the main theme of the website, off-topic keywords and contents in relation to the entire website would render your website to be a spam website thus warranting a suspension of your website from being ranked or indexed.

Second is that your website should attract click-through from the end user and this is made possible by making targeted meta and title tags. Every page must have a title that will describe the page and not the entire website.

Third, since personalised search targets the end user you should redesign your website into a more usable website. This is to help users navigate your website with ease especially those without any technical knowledge.

Google recently announced that their updated algorithm will now consider site speed as a factor in determining a websites’ indexing or ranking. This thus adds to the more than two hundred ranking factors that Google have incorporated in its search engine algorithm. This move of Google would thus affect a lot of search engine optimisation strategies and campaigns due to the fact that Google is the foremost target of SEO companies and SEO consultants in making a website being indexed and ranked, this is due to the fact that the search engine giant has the highest percentage in terms of users.

The consideration of site speed thus would directly affect Search engine optimisation, one of the effects of this is that if SEO consultants or SEO companies would like to increase their target websites’ speed they would have to thresh out the contents of their websites and thus would eventually remove duplicate web pages, duplicate websites or duplicate contents. Thus in return helping Google return the most accurate results based on the given search term.

Second effect would be an offshoot of the first effect mentioned, this would give SEO consultants and SEO companies to develop unique, original and relevant contents as well as links. With the elimination of duplicate contents SEO companies and SEO consultants must now develop relevant contents and links in place of those web pages and contents that were removed.

Increase in site speed also would contribute to increase in traffic and conversions. This is rooted on the fact that web users would not want to stay on a website that has a very slow loading time, users would eventually jump to another website. If your website has an increased site loading speed then users would eventually stay longer on your website and would thus give you more opportunity to convince them to purchase your product which would thus increase your conversion rate.

The incorporation of site speed in Google’s search engine algorithm should not be viewed negatively instead it should be seen as an avenue to improve your website and the online service you are giving your visitors or users.
